Online Surveys for Cash????
I took this semester off and am returning in Jan. I don't have a job, and I just found a Web site that claims I can earn money just by taking marketing surveys for brand name companies (they listed them, but I forgot what they were).
Of course I have to pay for this service.
Has anyone tried this or know someone personally who tried it. Please explain what it's about and if it's worth it.

Those are legitimate services that companies use to evaluate themselves that actually pay (in money, coupons, free purchases, etc.) There are a ton of them. Do a search on "mystery shopping." They typically don't pay a lot per job, but you can work them around your schedule and do as many as you can handle. You can also work for several of these companies at once, giving you more chances to make money. They sometimes give you a cash allowance and let you keep what you buy (they also will reimburse you for your expenses). There are ones involving surveys, too (usually evaluating Web sites, new products, etc.) These mystery shopping research cos. are totally different than the pyramid schemes some of the other posters here have mentioned. You typically go into a store or restaurant, pose as a shopper/patron, buy something, and then fill out a survey evaluating the company and e-mail it to the research firm, and they will send you payment for your work. I personally haven't done it, but I've talked to people who have and they generally speak positively about the experience.

But they are in it to make money for them, not for you.

They want to do a little research to find out if a certain product will sell, or if their advertising is working, or things like that...and will pay a little to find out...usually $1-5 per survey, sometimes up to $15, rarely more than that.

So how far do you have to go? I have gotten offers approved by just entering my email address. Other people like to go as far as entering their other personal information, just to make sure. It's recommendable to at least answer a couple of the survey yes/no questions. However, you do not have to go as far as step four to get the offer approved.
Some good options for free voicemail programs (some people don't like giving home phone #'s):

Also, one helpful hint is to get referrals! I have made money just by having referrals who complete offers (THANK YOU!). Ideally, the more referrals you get, the more $$$ you will make. I do make more money by completing orders than I get via referrals though.
They have a way to make flyers or business cards on the TT website, they are great tools for attaining referrals. Also, make sure to e-mail friends and family, because this is a really easy way to make money, and who can't use a little extra cash from time to time I like the flyers because I can post them in the mailroom at my apartment or at local posting boards.
If you shop online, make sure to check out the cash shopping section. I order flowers frequently, and by using the link from TT, I get cash back! They have over 300 stores there! I also have used 1-800-Flowers, OVERSTOCK.com, PetSmart, GNC and a couple of others. I have never had a problem with the online shopping through TT, and I always get money credited to my account because of it! Defeinitely a good service to check out!

I am a member of several. The one I have had the most luck with is Lightspeed. They do not pay you cash you get points which can be converted into cash via pay pal. However, they send me the most surveys. And already twice now I have been asked to participate in a more extensive survey in which I was sent a palm pilot in the mail and asked to record certain daily activities. The ones I have completed offered a $50 incentive and that was in the form of a check in addition to the points I received for completing the initial survey. I have also done survey savy which has a great referral program if you know people who will join you get money for surveys they complete. I have also tried American Consumer Opinion. They pay by check in mail for all surveys, but I have not been able to complete many of their surveys. I did a lot of research before joining these. You also need to be a regular email checker because if you don't respond to the survey fast enough they have met their quota. I am pleased with these sites and looking to join some new ones.

Reply:I dont think you will be able to make a substantial ammount filling in online surveys.I have tried it myself and they take a long time to fill in for relatively small ammounts of cash and some of them con you out of your cash so be carefull!I would suggest trying another job (at home) or using your pc in some other way from home as you will not make enough money to cover bills food etc.Look for something else you can do from home is my advice. x

I tried the Prize Rebel thingy, and the surveys there always required me to actually use a cellphone and stuff like that. They're all way too long and hard. And a lot of the surveys require you to do other offers that you have to use the credit card with! You have to join each of them individually and you get survey invitations by email. Rewards for surveys vary from $1 to $20 or more. Many pay for each survey you take or give you points which you can redeem for cash at a particular level. Some of them enter you into sweepstakes.
All are free to join. The so called paid surveys which charge money like $35 for you to join are only databases of such free to join companies, which you have to join individually. But only 30 to 40 out of those 500 or so survey sites are really worth joining.

Do not give anyone your SSN there are lots of sites out there that are legit and they do not need this info from you. Nor do you have to pay to join. I am a member of several. I have done survey savy which has a great referral program if you know people who will join you get money for surveys they complete also. I have also tried American Consumer Opinion. They pay by check in mail for all surveys, but I have not been able to complete many of their surveys. Pinecone is also great. You have to have an invitation to join though. They send one or two surveys a month. They are great though cause you will have a few days or a week to answer the survey if you don't check your email religiously. Then they send a check in the mail pronto. Surveyspot has tons of really short surveys most of which you only get an entry into a drawing. However they do have many paid surveys also. You can just go to their site everyday and answer surveys you don't have to wait for them to be emailed to you. They do some previewing of tv commercials and tv shows. I have done a couple tv shows which involved watching an hour long program (45 minutes without commercials) and answering some questions about it - with payment of $20 so that was nice.
Most pay a few dollars per survey completed so it is best to use several. You also need to be a regular email checker because if you don't respond to the survey fast enough they have met their quota.

I did have to call them and tell them my name and stuff first though

you dont have to give your CC or bank info ! there are some trial offers that you can sign up for and you get alot of money just for signing up , if you do decide to take advantage of those you can just get a prepaid visa or cc...you can get them almost anywhere (i've got some from the bank) and i think you can get them as low as $5.00. its just like a giftcard, none of your info is with it. then you just cancel the trial offer after its approved.

The site has some trial offers and things you can complete that you do have to pay a small fee, but end up getting paid alot more to complete then you would for the free offers. It's defiantely worth checking out.

I've had good luck with only a few of the many sites I've tried. I guess it depends what your definition of spam is for a lot of these sites. Almost all of the sites I use send emails to let you know there is a survey available to take. I don't receive any offers or "spam" email though.

I have some free survey sites that are very reliable just check out my profile by clicking my name or email me for them. I only give sites that I've been paid by so you won't get scammed. They're all reliable and I've never had a problem with them. (I've been doing them for a year now) The best part is that anyone can do them and they're easy. You won't get rich but they definitely help with bills :)
2. Btw a lot of the ones above are spammers and I wouldn't trust them

This one is called Baker St. Solutions (type it in google and it's the first listing). The pay by Amazon gift cards. Only send me about 2 surveys a month that range from $5-$25. Most of the sites you will find online are scams.
There are even sites out there that do pay you and are still scams.
For example:
Cash Crate - I don't care what anyone says, this is a scam.
They pay you to sign up and give away your personal info, sign up for credit cards, and click on links.
They will pay you for this, but you will be flooded with junkmail and spam.
Avoid it and any other site like it.
Legitimate survey sites are run by market research companies. They have privacy policies, and do not sell your personal info or have you sign up for crap.

Reply:Pinecone banners only tend to be up for a day or two so you really need to check the free survey directories on a regular basis. I know http://www.whichsurveys.com has a banner for the Pinecone UK panel at the moment but I don't know anywhere that has one for the US panel
I'm guessing that as you're at college you're quite young so try the companies like Choozz and IPSOS that have youth panels. Other than those, you should try sites like Valued Opinions and MySurvey.com that often have diary trials where you input information every day for a week or on some other regular basis as these tend to pay quite well. GlobalTestMarket send invitations nearly every day so whilst you might only earn $2.50 a time, the amounts add up quickly, and even if you don't qualify you'll still earn 25 cents just for trying. ACOP usually pays around $4 a time, with a good chance of getting products to test, but they limit you to one every month or so.
Generally the best advice is simply to work through one of the free directories eg http://www.whichsurveys.com, signing up for everything paying in cash and just see what you get offered.

This one is called Baker St. Solutions (type it in google and it's the first listing). The pay by Amazon gift cards. Only send me about 2 surveys a month that range from $5-$25. I'll just be completely honest....
Most of the sites you will find online are scams.
There are even sites out there that do pay you and are still scams.
For example:
Cash Crate - I don't care what anyone says, this is a scam.
They pay you to sign up and give away your personal info, sign up for credit cards, and click on links.
They will pay you for this, but you will be flooded with junkmail and spam.
Avoid it and any other site like it.
Legitimate survey sites are run by market research companies. They have privacy policies, and do not sell your personal info or have you sign up for crap.

I have some free survey sites that are very reliable just check out my profile by clicking my name or email me for them. I only give sites that I've been paid by so you won't get scammed. They're all reliable and I've never had a problem with them. (I've been doing them for a year now) The best part is that anyone can do them and they're easy. You won't get rich but they definitely help with bills :)

Reply:Pinecone banners only tend to be up for a day or two so you really need to check the free survey directories on a regular basis. I know http://www.whichsurveys.com has a banner for the Pinecone UK panel at the moment but I don't know anywhere that has one for the US panel
I'm guessing that as you're at college you're quite young so try the companies like Choozz and IPSOS that have youth panels. Other than those, you should try sites like Valued Opinions and MySurvey.com that often have diary trials where you input information every day for a week or on some other regular basis as these tend to pay quite well. GlobalTestMarket send invitations nearly every day so whilst you might only earn $2.50 a time, the amounts add up quickly, and even if you don't qualify you'll still earn 25 cents just for trying. ACOP usually pays around $4 a time, with a good chance of getting products to test, but they limit you to one every month or so.
Generally the best advice is simply to work through one of the free directories eg http://www.whichsurveys.com, signing up for everything paying in cash and just see what you get offered.

I've tried cash crate and personally I think it's a scam. My reason for this is because you had to sign up for numerous magazine subscriptions, netflix, etc. So that of course requires a credit card. I deleted my account as soon as.
I'm signed up on Global Test Market. I've been a member for about 4 months and have accumulated 755 points. I *think* you have to get 1,000 points before you can redeem it for anything. I rarely get survey invitations from them so it's been difficult to get anything.
I've had the best luck from surveyspot.com. I've made around $100 the past couple of months, no joke. I know it's not much but it helps. They usually give you $3 surveys that are either sent to your email or you can go directly to the site and keep checking which I do. They have their regular surveys where you don't get any money, or some that say "$3 survey" and those are the ticket surveys to cash in. A lot of times you don't qualify for what they're looking for, it may be your age or because you've never tried the lotion brand that they're trying to get info on. I've also done 2 $10 surveys which is awesome. Just the other day I was invited to do a $30 survey which took 90 minutes. It was a sort of discussion group with other members on a product. I loved it.
As for junk mail: I think all survey sites will send a little junk. It doesn't phase me, I just mark it as junk or "unsubscribe" from their mailing list and I'm done.

All the "surveys" for cash %26amp; crap like that all have some kind of catch, I've checked hundreds! IF there "isn't a catch", they only want to pay a few cents for each "survey" you do or e-mail you read.

I'm looking to make some money on my spare time, over the internet. I want to know of a websites, that let you do this, but doesn't require you to put money up front, give your bank account, or that isn't fraud. Just looking for a legit way of making money, legally with no strings attached. Are any of the online surveys actually legitimate and do any of them really pay cash?
There are several survey sites that are legit, your not going to get rich doing them though. Do not give anyone your SSN there are lots of sites out there that are legit and they do not need this info from you. Nor do you have to pay to join. I am a member of several. The one I have had the most luck with is Lightspeed. They do not pay you cash you get points which can be converted into cash via pay pal. However, they send me the most surveys. And already twice now I have been asked to participate in a more extensive survey in which I was sent a palm pilot in the mail and asked to record certain daily activities. The ones I have completed offered a $50 incentive and that was in the form of a check in addition to the points I received for completing the initial survey. I have also done survey savy which has a great referral program if you know people who will join you get money for surveys they complete. I have also tried American Consumer Opinion. They pay by check in mail for all surveys, but I have not been able to complete many of their surveys. Pinecone is also great. You have to have an invitation to join though. Right now they are looking for males over 18. Email me if you want the invitation. They send one or two surveys a month. They are great though cause you will have a few days or a week to answer the survey if you don't check your email religiously. Then they send a check in the mail pronto.
Most pay a few dollars per survey completed so it is best to use several. You also need to be a regular email checker because if you don't respond to the survey fast enough they have met their quota.
